Gametes
This collaborative installation with Kellie Romany explores fertilization and the material merging of porcelain and oil paint. During the one-month exhibition at the Arts Incubator in Chicago, the unfired and fired vessels absorbed and dried the paint. The clay’s potential to contain was a determining factor in each painting’s form, and yet, once covered by this fleshy, puckering surface, the form of the clay itself seems to be lost. Is it possible that the history of materials impregnates object with a predetermined genetic code?
